This Might Be a Cryptic (ft. Anna Harkins!)


after meeting the wonderful Anna (known as ghana7 by many (and whose birthday is today! wish her happy birthday!!!)) at a They Might Be Giants concert this past month and having a wonderful and physically debilitating time jamming out to my favorite band, inspiration struck to make a cryptic where every clue was TMBG-related, and every studio album was represented in the clues. Anna, very gracefully, decided to work on this project with me, and after some weeks (but mainly one 6-hour Discord voice call) of hard work and collaboration, we churned out this beauty that we're both insanely proud of.

yes, in total, every single one of TMBG's 24 studio albums is alluded to in the surface reads of these clues (as well as some compilation albums, EPs, and a standalone song that's only ever performed live), whether represented by the album name itself, a song from the album, or an allusion to the main premise of a song's lyrical content as featured on the album, and not one clue strays from this pattern!

a playlist is provided in the applet, and you MUST LISTEN TO IT while solving the puzzle, or else the overall solving experience will be NEGATIVELY TAINTED. alternative options include any other TMBG songs you would prefer, or, if you're live-streaming this on twitch and don't wish to meddle with the copyright gods, recordings of TMBG playing their music live. if you don't adhere to these guidelines, we will be the big sad :,(
